BK’s at International Yoga Day
Alexandra Palace grounds, London
21st June 2015

Set beautifully on grassland, enclosed by trees in the upper grounds of Alexandra Palace, This flagship free event for London celebrated the newly inaugurated United Nations International Yoga Day.

This wonderful day was infused with enthusiasm, interest and engagement from over 5,500 who visited throughout the day. A huge variety of hatha yoga classes ran all day in four areas, from 7am until 7pm. There was a great range of classes on offer from breathing technique practices to full on posture disciplines and as well as laughter yoga. Various teachers demonstrated the practical benefits to the body and mind of the ancient eastern traditions of yoga.

BK’s had been part of the organising and steering committee from the inception and BK’s supported the event on many levels throughout the day; including a team at the entrance registering everyone, to running the production at the main stage programme which ran from 8am until 8.30pm.

The Raj Yoga set up included a creative space, with a programme of raj yoga related activities; the virtuescope and virtuewheel opportunity to remind everyone of their virtues; the tree of life for people to share their good wishes for the world on; a labyrinth mown and mapped with bird seed that invited people to step into an inner journey as they walked in silence; and a meditation space that ran half hourly meditation sessions. All activities ran at full capacity all day and BK’s were available all day to encourage and support souls to discover the benefits of Raj Yoga.

Mr Siddhu, Coordination Minister at High Commission of India and MP for Harrow East, Bob Blackman both visited and spoke to those gathered at the main stage.

The finale was staged at World Meditation Hour and brought everyone together for the close of the event. Actor Clarke Peters inspired everyone to imagine what a world would look like if we went beyond the consciousness of the ‘costume’ and saw each one as more than this. BK Luba danced an angelic dance that was beautiful and subtle. Then BK’s Minal and Prithi sang fusing two songs together bringing east and west together in the reminder of how wonderful as spiritual beings we all are. Sister Maureen continued to take people into the unlimited, as well as into an appreciation of this planet we all abite on at present. Clarke reminded everyone as he sang ‘We are one family’ and the day concluded with a final thank you by Anjali Kusre of Zee TV, thanking everyone and especially The One. Everyone then came into the Om sound holding hands.
